From Heaven Above…We hear the good news of Christmas
In 1534, as Martin Luther was thinking about his Christmas sermon and rocking the cradle of his youngest child, he came up with the words for the hymn “From Heav’n Above to Earth I Come.” Luther originally wrote it for his children to use on Christmas Day. In the first part of this hymn, Luther shared the Christmas story first from the viewpoint of the angels who appeared to the shepherds. In the second part of the hymn, he focused on our reaction to the message of the angels. Tonight’s service is designed around this hymn; nearly every section of the Christmas story is introduced by stanzas from it.
