The Sermon …………………………………………….……. Jude 3
Dear friends, although I was very diligent to write to you about the salvation we share, it was also necessary for me to write to you and urge to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints….. For in the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires….. But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life.

The Invocation And Reformation Litany
P: “Unless I am convinced by Holy Scripture, my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise. God help me, Amen.” Here, many years later, in a hostile world that still ridicules and persecutes those who stand up for Jesus and stand upon His Word – Here we still stand by faith, upon the sacred and eternal truths of His Word.
C: Here we still stand, God help us. Amen.
Sing: Lord, keep us steadfast in Your Word;
Curb those who by deceit or sword
Would wrest the Kingdom from Your Son
And bring to naught all he has done.
P: The Truth is: All of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. All of us deserve God’s eternal anger and punishment for our sins.None of us are worthy of the least of all the mercies & truth that God has granted us.
C: This we confess and plead for God’s mercy in Christ Jesus, our Savior.
P: The Truth is: It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.God loved us and sent His Son into the world as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Christ lived for us, Christ died for us, Christ rose again for us. Whoever believes on Him will not perish,
but have eternal life. Be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. You are righteous and at peace with God through Christ.
C: In this we believe and rejoice as redeemed children of God.
Sing: Lord Jesus Christ, Your pow’r make known,
For You are Lord of lords alone;
Defend Your holy Church that we
May sing Your praise eternally.
P: The Truth is: By grace we are saved through faith, and that not of ourselves. It is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one may boast. Our works cannot add any merit to the completed and complete saving work of Christ.
C: For this we give all honor and glory to the Lamb for sinners slain.
P: The Truth is: We still struggle against the “roaring lion seeking to devour us”, the “forces of darkness” that envelop us, and the rebellious enemy within us. It is a battle which we of ourselves cannot win. Yet the power of the Gospel and the weapons of the Word are still ours in Christ and they shall overcome. The very gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church.
C: Here we stand, we cannot do otherwise. God help us! Amen.
Sing: O Comforter of priceless worth, Send peace and unity on earth!
Support us in our final strife, And lead us out of death to life.
The Scripture Reading – Matthew 10 (Excerpts)
As Jesus sent out His disciples armed with His powerful Word, so His faithful down through the ages have continued to carry out and on His commission. And while there will ever be blessings that result, it has also involved rejection (and worse) from many. As the Lord gave Martin Luther the strength to confess Him before men, may He also grant us boldness and courage in the face of our faith and Kingdom last-times challenges.
