Order of Worship:
Choir: “In Thy Wounds Most Holy”
Opening Hymn: TLH 145 : Jesus, Refuge of the Weary
LET US EVER WALK WITH JESUS
(The Bible Location References Will Not Be Read)
….. IN FAITH
P: “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem and the Son of Man will be betrayed, condemned, abused and killed” (Mark 10: 32-34)
C: Because Jesus “walked” the way of the cross as our Savior, we who have “walked” and fallen into sin and death, have now received mercy and forgiveness from the Lord.
P: In faith we trust God’s promise that “the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin” (I John 1:7) and that “whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life” (John 3:16).
C: We “walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).
SING: Jesus only can impart Balm to heal the smitten heart;
Peace that flows from sins forgiven, Joy that lifts the soul to heav’n;
Faith and hope to walk with God In the way that Enoch trod.
…….. IN STEP
P: “As you have received Christ,so walk in Him”(Colossians 2:6). As Enoch. Noah, Abraham, David and other faithful “walked with God” – trusting His promises, keeping in step with His Word and “walking in His Truth” (Psalm 26:3), so may we follow in their footsteps (Psalm 17:5).
C: Help us ever to “walk worthy of the Lord… and of our calling” (Colossians 1:10; Ephesians 4:1).
P: Jesus said: “I am the Light; he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
C: Help us ever to “walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8).
Sing: I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s Light.
Look unto Me; Your morn shall rise and all your day be bright”.
I looked to Jesus, and I found In Him My Star, my Sun;
And in that Light of Life I’ll walk Till trav’ling days are done.
…….. INTO ETERNITY
P: We do walk into death alone. “Yea, though I walk thru the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” (Ps 23)
C: “For the Lord has dealt bountifully with me. For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from falling – that I may walk before You in the land of the living” (Ps 116:8-9).
P: “He who overcomes shall walk with Me in white garments. For they have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb. To Him be all glory and praise now and evermore.! (Revelation 3 & 7).
C: “I walk with Jesus all the way. My walk is heavenward all the way.”
Sing: Draw us to Thee; Oh, grant that we May walk the road to heaven!
Direct our way Lest we should stray And from Thy paths be driven.
Draw us to Thee, For then shall we Walk in Thy steps forever,
And hasten on Where Thou art gone To be with Thee, dear Savior.
The Scripture Reading: John 15:18-25; 16:1-4 (Both Master And Servant Hated)
Our Lenten Creed (The 2nd Article of The Creed – Luther’s Explanation)
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the father from eternity, and also true Man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord; He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil – not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent sufferings and death. All this He did that I should be His own and live under Him in His Kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as He has risen from death and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true.
