Opening Invocational Prayer

P: O God of Creation – Your providence is unending and Your good gifts overflow in our lives. For the miracle of healthy bodies and sound minds, the blessing of food and drink, the warmth of shelter and clothing and the beauty of the earth we offer our heartfelt thanks.

O Christ of Salvation – You died that we might live and rose that we might live forever. For Your life, which gives us strength when life is hard; Your Word and Gospel, which gives our lives new meaning; And your redemption, which fills our hearts with joy and hope, we offer our heartfelt thanks.

O Spirit of Love – You fill our lives with peace and purpose. For the love and warmth of family and friends, the blessing of the fellowship of the faithful, the fulfillment of knowing who we are and what our destiny is in Christ, and the faith to entrust our souls to our heavenly Father, we offer our heartfelt thanks.

Our Confession of Sins

All: On this day of Thanksgiving, O Lord, we confess before You our many failures to reflect an attitude of gratitude in our hearts and lives. Instead of a spirit of appreciation and contentment with all Your blessings of soul and body, we have too often been indifferent, unappreciative and discontented. Forgive us these and all other sins for the sake of Your redeeming live. Strengthen our faith and renew our hearts with a spirit of thanksgiving and praise. Amen.

God’s Assurance Of Forgiveness In Christ (The Absolution)

The Responsive Thanksgiving Scripture (Psalm 103 Excerpts)

P: Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy Name.

C: Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget all His benefits:

P: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.

C: Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.

P: Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Sing “Now Thank We All Our God”  (V 1)

♫ 1 Now thank we all our God  With heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done,  In whom His world rejoices;
Who from our mother’s arms  Has blest us on our way
With countless gifts of love  And still is ours today. [LSB 895 v1]

P: As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

C: For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

P: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy.

C: He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.

P: For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;

C: As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

P: For the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children,

C: To such as keep His covenant, who remember His promises to follow them.

♫ 2 Oh, may this bounteous God  Through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts  And blessed peace to cheer us
And keep us in His grace  And guide us when perplexed
And free us from all ills  In this world and the next! [LSB 895 v2]

P: The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His Kingdom rules over all.

C: Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, Who do His Word, heeding the voice of His Word.

P: Bless the Lord, all His works. Ion all places of His dominion;

C: Bless the Lord, O my soul!

♫ 3 All praise and thanks to God  The Father now be given,
The Son, and Him who reigns  With them in highest heaven,
The one eternal God,  Whom earth and heav’n adore;
For thus it was, is now,  And shall be evermore. [LSB 895 v3]

Our Profession Of Faith (Luther’s First Article Creed Explanation)

I believe that God has made me and every creature and that He gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears and all my members, my mind and all my abilities. And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, cattle and all that I own, and all that I need to keep my body and life, And by defending me against all danger and guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does because He is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it. For all this I ought to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

Hymn:  “A Thanksgiving Anthem”    Tune: TLH 161

We thank Thee for Thy blessings, almighty Lord and King;
We thank Thee for the harvest, Yes, Lord for everything:
For flow’rs that bloom in springtime, For ripening fruit and grain,
For all the precious sunshine, And for the gentle rain.

This day of great Thanksgiving  We count them one by one,
Our very self and heart-beat, the glories Thou hast done,
Our family, our loved ones, The guardian angels’ care,
Our country and our nations,  Lord, hear our thank you prayer.

And best of all Thy blessings – The rainbow of Thy Love,
Are all the many mercies  Thy Word brings from above.
Our life now has full meaning,  Christ Jesus is our God!
Thanksgiving shall be living  The way our Savior trod.
