THE RISEN CHRIST CONVEYS EASTER POWER

I know that my Redeemer lives

The Sermon ………………..…………………………………………..  John 20: 19 – 31

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said: “Peace be with you!” After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me,  I am sending you.” And with that He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgiven anyone his sins, they are forgiven; If you do not forgive them, theyare not forgiven.”

Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.!”  But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my fingers where the nails were, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe it.

A week later His disciples were in the house again,  and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finer here; See my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus said, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Jesus did many other miracles in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His Name.

The Invocation And Confession Of Sins

Dear Lord, with your disciples of old, we too must confess that we are sometimes “foolish and slow of heart to believe all the prophets have spoken about You.” Too often we wrestle with our own thoughts and feelings, our own doubts and fears rather than trusting You and Your Words and promises. Too often we fail to apply Your Words to our lives; Too often we fail to live as Your redeemed and sanctified disciples. As you forgave and strengthened Your faithful of old, forgive and strengthen our hearts. By the power of Your sin-atoning death and life-restoring resurrection, grant us forgiveness and peace. Renew our faith and restore our resolve to live and serve You as Your victorious and ever-living children.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.
