Order of Worship:
SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST June 29, 2008 – 9:30 A.M
Opening Hymn 761 (Supplement) – “In You Is Gladness”
The Liturgy …………………………… Supplement (Pages 12 – 15)
The Scripture – Acts 22: 1 – 13
The Apostle Paul (formerly zealous Christian persecutor Saul) recounts the events of his own amazing “conversion” – as Jesus appeared to Him first with the frightening reality of His own holy Presence and Saul’s own sin and guilt before Him, and then ultimately with the even more amazing call to faith and to missionary service in His Kingdom. The power of Jesus’ Name and Word (Law and Gospel) to convict, condemn, convert & convince the hearts of sinners remains no less effective today in our hearts and in the hearts of those with whom we share this “strong Word”.
Hymn 779 (Supplement) – “Redeemed, Restored, Forgiven”
The Sermon …………………………………….Acts 22: 14 – 16, 21
Then Ananias said, “The God of our fathers has chosen you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from His mouth. You will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on His Name.”
THE MIRACLE OF “CONVERSION”
1. Man Neither Desires Nor Can Effect It
2.Only The Holy Spirit By Grace Can Effect It
3. It Creates A Desire To Love & Serve God
Hymn 757 (Supplement) – “Christ Triumphant, Ever Reigning”
The Offering Of Thankful Hearts
We Confess The Spirit’s Work In Our Hearts
I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him. But the Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way, He calls, gathers, enlightens and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church He daily and fully forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead; And He will give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.
