The Invocation, The Confession Of Sins & Assurance Of Forgiveness

P: Beloved in the Lord, let us come before God in true repentance to receive His grace and mercy in Christ.

C: O gracious Lord, You have given us so many life blessings, far more than we deserve. Yet we too often repay You with unappreciative, dissatisfied and complaining hearts rather than thankfulness. What ungrateful sinners we are. We pray for Your mercy and forgiveness for Jesus’ sake. Fill our hearts with gratitude and praise for all Your blessings of soul and body.

The Thanksgiving Scripture – Philippians 4 (Excerpts)

A deeply thankful Paul has “learned” to let none of life’s blessings or needs, up or downs, disrupt or curtail his ongoing thanksgiving celebration. No matter what he has or lacks or faces in life – God has supplied all his real “needs” and in that he finds joy, peace and contentment. May such a spirit fill our hearts as well.

Our Profession Of Faith (Luther’s First Article Creed Explanation)

I believe that God has made me and every creature and that He gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears and all my members, my mind and all my abilities. And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, cattle and all that I own, and all that I need to keep my body and life, And by defending me against all danger and guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does because He is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it. For all this I ought to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

In grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before You, we kneel and adore You;
We bless Your holy name, glad praises we sing.

And gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.

To You, our great Redeemer, forever be praise! [LSB 785, V 1 & 3]

Our Responsive Thanksgiving Prayer

P: Let us give thanks to God our Father through His Son with the Holy Spirit, for all His gifts – For our redemption by the precious blood of Christ, for the means of grace, for the forgiveness of sins and salvation, for the hope of glory and for the proclamation of Your pure, saving Word and Gospel in our midst:

C: We thank you, Lord, for Your saving grace and mercy in our lives.

P: For all whom You have used in our lives to nourish and nurture our faith: Godly parents and grandparents, faithful pastors and teachers, Christian spouses, family and friends, fellow believers:

C: We thank You, Lord, for all who have touched our lives with Your love.

P: For all in authority in our land and all who are serving to protect us, our land and our freedoms, through whom we are able to live our lives in peace and godliness.

C: We thank You, Lord, for all those who serve You and us in our earthly lives.

P: For all Your material blessings – for food, clothing and shelter, for health  and strength, for peace and joy, for meeting our earthly needs and especially for providing help and healing to the sick and suffering, strength for the weak, hope for the discouraged, and comfort for those who mourn.

C: We thank You, Lord, for Your bountiful earthly blessings in our lives, all gifts from heaven above.

P: For all the gifts of Your bounty we ask that we may be made faithful stewards and praise Your great and glorious Name – Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with the father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: We thank You, Lord, for granting us the privilege of serving You with our hearts and lives, and hands and voices.

P: For all Your blessings and gifts, we lift our hearts in praise and thanksgiving. “What shall we render to the Lord for all His benefits toward us?” (Psalm 116:12)

C: Truly “My cup runs over…. I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all people.” (Psalm 116:13-14)
