What Really Matters: “Fear God”!

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Fear God and keep his commandments

The Sermon: Ecclesiastes 12: 9-14 9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true. 11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. 13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Remember Your Creator When Young

The Sermon: Ecclesiastes 12: 1-7 12 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”— 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; 3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim; 4 when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades; when people rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint; 5 when people are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags itself along Read More …

Cast Your Bread Upon The Waters

Create in me a pure heart, O God.

The Sermon: Ecclesiastes 11: 1-8 11 Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. 2 Give a portion to seven, or even to eight, for you know not what disaster may happen on earth. 3 If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth, and if a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie. 4 He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap. 5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything. 6 In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your Read More …

Anatomy Of A Fool

The Sermon: Ecclesiastes 10 (Excerpts) “As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor…. The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of a fool to the left. Even as he walks along the road, the fool lacks wisdom and shows everyone how foolish he is….. Fools are put in many high positions, while the rich occupy the lowly ones. I have seen slaves on horseback, while princes go on foot like slaves…. Whoever quarries stones may be injured by them; Whoever splits logs may be endangered by them. If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success…. Words from a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but a fool is consumed by his own lips. At the beginning his words Read More …

The Lord’s Words And Ways And Workers

The Sermon: Ecclesiastes 9: 13-18 13 This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me: 14 There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. 16 Then I said: “Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard. 17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good.” The Lord’s Words And Ways And Workers: Unpretentious, Despised – Yet Read More …
