Your Spiritual Olympic Challenge – Run for Your Life

May the crown of life before me Be my calling, goal and prize – By God’s grace and to His glory - Life beyond the skies.

The Sermon: 1 Corinthians 9: 24-27

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

The Scripture Reading – Luke 16: 1-9

Most everyone has life-goals – some of them noble and appropriate, others not so much or worse. In this parable our Lord reminds us that we, who have the most noble and important goal in life, the saving of our souls and others in Christ, should imitate and exceed the zeal and commitment the world shows toward it own goals.

The Goal, Difficulty And Prize Of Our Faith-Race

“Create In Me” (Hymn 956)

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me,
Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit.

Hymn CW 467 : May the Mind of Christ My Savior Hymnary.org link “May the Mind of Christ My Savior”

  1. May I run the race before me, Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus As I onward go.
  2. May the crown of life before me Be my calling, goal and prize –
By God’s grace and to His glory – Life beyond the skies.
