2016 Lent Probing Questions of the Passion "Lord, Is It I?"

Maundy Thursday, March 24      Accompanist: Heather Schierenbeck
“Behold the Lamb of God”

The Opening Hymn

The Invocation

P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

Our Lenten Expression Of Repentance & Faith

C: Lord Jesus, in this holy season, Your living and powerful Word penetrates to the very depth of my soul. With the probing instrument of Your holy Law, You expose my sinful heart and life, convicting and condemning me. Yet with the powerful and permeating Gospel of redemption you also come to me – assuring me of forgiveness and peace through Your saving merit. In repentance and faith I now come to You, O Lamb of God, looking to the cross alone. Forgive me, strengthen me and renew me for Your Name’s sake.

The Absolution

P: Lent brings us the assurance from heaven that “God has seen the suffering of His Son and is satisfied” (Isaiah 53:11). “Be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you” (Matthew 9:2).

Sung Response (Hymn 435, V 1 & 4)

♫  Come to Calv’ry’s holy mountain, Sinners, ruined by the fall;
Here a pure and healing fountain, Flows for you, for me, for all,
In a full, perpetual tide, Opened when our Savior died.

They that drink shall live forever; ‘Tis a soul-renewing flood.
God is faithful; God will never Break His covenant of blood,
Signed when our Redeemer died, Sealed when He was glorified.

Maundy Thursday – The Journey To Golgotha

Our Lenten Creed (Luther’s Explanation To The 2nd Article)

      I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true Man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord. He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil – not with gold or silver, but with His holy precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death. All this He did that I should be His own and live under Him in his kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness. Just as He is risen from death, lives and rules to all eternity. This is most certainly true.

Probing Questions of the Passion

Our Sung Response (Hymn 761, V 1 & 3)

♫  Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure: Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.

Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling.
Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die!

The Lenten Offering

A Lenten Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction ♫ Amen
