The Invocation And Responsive Reading Of Psalm 102 (Excerpts)

P: Hear my prayer, O Lord; Do not hide Your face from me;
C: When I am in distress, turn Your ear to me;

P: Because of Your great wrath, You have taken me and thrown me aside;
C: My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like the grass.

P: Yet you have arisen and had compassion on Zion;
C: For it is time to show favor to her; The appointed time has come to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.

P: The Lord looked down from His sanctuary on high, from heaven He viewed the earth.
C: To hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.
Lord Jesus Christ, our thanks to Thee In this new year we render;
Thy reign hath kept Thy people free, Hath shown Thy mercies tender.
Thou hast redeemed us by Thy blood,Thou art our Joy,our only Good
In life and death our Savior.

P: For though my days and years have been cut short,
C: Yet You, O Lord, sit enthroned forever; Your years and Your glory endure through all generations.

P: In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
C: They will perish but You will remain; They will wear out like a garment, but You remain the same and Your years never end.

P: You, O Lord, will respond to the prayers and pleas of Your people;
C: For all the nations of the earth will fear Your Name and revere Your glory; You will rebuild Zion and appear in Your glory.
Sing CW 72 : O Lord Our Father Thanks and Praise Hymnary.org link :
O Lord, our Father, thanks to Thee In this new year we render;
For every evil had to flee Before Thee, our Defender.
Our life was nourished, we were fed With rich supplies of daily bread,
Your grace and glory reigns.

P: Let this be written for a future generation,
C: That a people not yet created may praise the Lord.

P: The children of Your servants will live in Your presence;
C: Their descendants will be established before You.

P: So the Name of the Lord will be proclaimed in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem,
C: When the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord.
Sing CW 72 : O Lord Our Father Thanks and Praise Hymnary.org link :
Our faithful God, we cry to Thee; Still bless us with Thy favor,
Blot out all our iniquity, And hide our sins forever.
Grant us a happy,good new year And when the hour of death draws near,
A peaceful, blest departure.

The Scripture Reading – 1 Samuel 2: 1 – 10
In response to all the Lord’s life and faith blessings, including the recent answer to her prayer for a child (Samuel), Hannah’s joy and faith confidence rested not in the seeming might and ingenuity of man, but entirely in the hands of her Creator and Redeemer God Who rules all things for the well-being of His saints. May such be our faith-confidence as we face another new year with all its struggles and uncertainties.

Our Profession Of Faith (The Apostles Creed)
I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Sermon ……………………………………………………. Luke 2 : 21 – 24

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, He was named Jesus, the Name the angel had given Him before He had been conceived. When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”

Our New Year’s Confessional Prayer
As we close out and begin another year of Your grace, heavenly Father, we are again reminded of who we are, Who You are, and what You have made us in Christ. Despite our best intentions, our sinful nature again reared its ugly head in various ways this past year. For our many sins we are truly sorry and ask Your forgiveness. For Christ’s sake we seek Your mercy. Thank you for again patiently bearing with us – forgiving us, strengthening us and nurturing us in our faith. In Christ, You have redeemed us and made us holy – Your own dear children. Assure us of Your abiding love. Be with us in the coming year amidst our many fears, uncertainties and struggles. Strengthen us for the challenge of remaining faithful to You and Your Word. Keep us as Yours in time, that we may remain Yours for all eternity. May Your holy Sacrament of grace comfort us, bless us and inspire us throughout our earthly pilgrimage. In Jesus’ Name we come before Your throne of grace. Amen.

The Absolution

The Consecration Of The Bread And Wine

The Distribution Of Holy Communion (No Hymn Sung)
(As Scripture presents the reception of Lord’s Supper as an intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity, we ask that only those who have publicly professed such unity by membership at Berea or in another congregation of the CLC come forward. This is not a judgment on anyone’s faith,but rather an expression of ours. Any with questions or seeking a church home may speak with the Pastor)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
