Our Ascended Lord, Retired as Savior, Still Ruling from Heaven

Our Ascended Lord

The Sermon: Ephesians 1: 20-23

God worked His power in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Ascension Sunday

Sunday, May 8, 2016 (9:00 a.m.)

Opening Hymn LSB 528 : Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing Hymnary.org link “Oh, For A Thousand Tongues To Sing”

The Invocation And Confession Of Sins

C: We poor sinners confess to You, O God, not only that we have been conceived and born in sin, but also that throughout life we have often and in many ways offended You, our Lord and Maker, so that You could with perfect justice condemn us for all eternity. Therefore we come before You with repentant hearts, seeking Your mercy in Christ Jesus, Your Son, our Savior, Who has atoned for all our sins on the cross. Forgive us, receive us, renew us and strengthen us for Your Name’s sake. Amen.

The Absolution

The Responsive Reading Of Psalm 47

P: Clap your hands, all peoples!
C: Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

P: For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared,
C: A great king over all the earth.

P: He subdued peoples under us,
C: And nations under our feet.

P: He chose our heritage for us,
C: The pride of Jacob whom he loves.

P: God has gone up with a shout,
C: The Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

P: Sing praises to God, sing praises!
C: Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

P: For God is the King of all the earth;
C: sing praises with a psalm!

P: God reigns over the nations;
C: God sits on his holy throne.

P: The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham.
C: For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!

The Scripture Reading – Acts 1: 1-11 – The Ascension Story & Promises

The Apostles Creed (Inside Back Cover Of Hymnal)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

“Create In Me” (Hymn 956)
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me,
Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit.

Our Offering

The Lord’s Prayer (Inside Back Cover Of Hymnal)

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction ♫ Amen, Amen, Amen
