JESUS CALLS HIS DISCIPLES… AND US

The Sermon: Mark 1: 14 – 20

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee,proclaiming the Gospel of God. “The time has come,” He said, “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the Gospel.” As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. When He had gone a little farther, He saw James and his brother John, sons of Zebedee, in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay, He called them and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed Him.

O, that I had a thousand voices To praise my God with thousand tongues!
My heart,which in the Lord rejoices,Would then proclaim in grateful songs
To all, wherever I might be, What great things God has done for me.

I praise Thee, Savior,Whose compassion Did bring You down to ransom me;
Thy loving heart sought my salvation Tho’ pain & woes were heaped on Thee,
Bro’t me from bondage full release,Made me Thine own & gave me peace.

The Scripture Reading – 2 Corinthians 4: 5-15
Just as the Gospel call to repent and believe in Christ is our Lord’s doing, so with the call to serve Him – whether it be in the public ministry or in our many vital faith callings in which we live for and serve Jesus. Clay vessels we are, with weaknesses and struggles aplenty; Yet greater than all we are not is the power of our risen Savior and His mighty Gospel- through which God’s mighty grace is touching the hearts of many.

The Old Testament Reading – Psalm 116 (Excerpts)
The believer’s natural and heartfelt response to the Lord’s mercies in his life and all that it means for us – can only be one of love, praise, and thanksgiving as we seek to represent, reflect, honor, serve and follow our Savior in our lives.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.
