The Holy Spirit Works Sight Unseen To Make My Christmas Possible

The Holy Spirit Works Sight Unseen To Make My Christmas Possible 1

The Sermon:  John 14:16-17, 26

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

The Invocation and Confessional Advent Prayer

In this holy season we prepare for the coming of Your very Son, dear Father in heaven. Give us each the courage to make straight the pathways of our lives and to sweep clean the corners of our hearts.  And since there is no power in us to cleanse our soiled and sinful hearts, we seek to wash ourselves clean in the blood of the very Lamb we prepare to welcome. Help us in repentance and faith to receive our Advent King and Savior. You alone, O Lord. give us cause to hope and reason to rejoice. We lift up our hearts in praise of Your unfailing Christmas goodness and mercy. Amen

Sing Hymn: “Away In A Manger” (V 1 – Children; V 2 & 3 – Everyone)

Third Sunday in Advent

Children: ♫ 1 Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head.
The stars in the sky–looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

All: 2 The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

All: 3 Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And take us to heaven to live with Thee there.

The Scripture Reading – Matthew 1:18-25

The confusion and fears of Joseph regarding Mary were put to rest by the angel’s appearance and reassurance of God’s miraculous and wonderful salvation plans fulfilled in the virgin birth of Jesus, Who would save His people from their sins- our Immanuel. “God with us.”

“Create In Me” (Page 12 in Hymnal)

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me,
Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit.
