The Invocation And Confession Of Sins

C: O Lord, Your holiness is perfect and glorious. And you rightfully say to those you created holy, “Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy.” Yet, it is a divine demand which we sinners cannot meet. Our only hope is  to echo the repentance and faith of him who cried out, “God be merciful to me, a sinner.”For the sake of the Lamb for sinners slain, Whose “blood cleanses us from all sin”, forgive us, renew us and strengthen us. In Jesus holy and saving Name we come before You. Amen.

God’s Forgiving Love Announced By The Pastor

P:  Hallowed by Thy Name. What does this mean?
C: God’s name is certainly holy by itself, but we pray in this petition that we too may keep it holy.

P: How is God’s Name kept holy?
C: God’s Name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we as children of God lead holy lives according to it. Help us do this, dear Father in heaven! But whoever teaches and lives contrary to God’s Word dishonors God’s Name among us. Keep us from doing this, dear Father in heaven.

Sing: Our Father, Thou in heav’n above, Who biddest us to dwell in love,
As brethren of one family, To cry in every need to Thee,
Teach us no thoughtless words to say, But from our inmost heart to pray.

Thy Name be hallowed, help us, Lord, In purity to keep Thy Word,
That to the glory of Thy Name  We walk before Thee free from blame.

Teach us Thy truth to speak and live, Thy saving love to all might give.

The Scripture Reading –  Psalm 116

The prayers of the righteous rise heavenward daily in the Lord’s Name – beginning with the Psalmist’s prayer – “O Lord, save me!” and continuing through all of our life needs and struggles, even until our ultimate and precious death deliverance to the land of the living. For all of this we call upon the Lord’s name in praise and thanksgiving.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.
