God’s Thoughts of Peace Toward Us

The Sermon: Jeremiah 29: 11 – 13

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward You’”, says the LORD, “thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon   Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when You search for Me with all your heart.”

A Responsive New Year’s Prayer

C: Gracious God,as we stand on the threshold of a new year, we are painfully aware of our sinful natures.  Often we have done what You have forbidden and neglected what You have commanded. Humbly we bow before You this night in repentance and faith. Pardon us for the sake of our Your Son, our ChristChild Savior.

P: It is my privilege as Your called shepherd to share You God’s wonderful absolution and assurance of sins forgiven in Jesus.

C: Father, we are this night mindful of all Your blessings of the past year and of our need for Your presence in the future. Years come and go, but You and Your Gospel remain our Strength and Stay. As Your dear children in Jesus, we pray for Your continued kindness and compassion in our lives.

P: Lord, hear our prayer and be with us in the coming year.

C: As we face the uncertainties of the coming year, grant us a faith that commits our future into Your mighty and merciful hands. Continue to nourish our souls with the blessings of Your Gospel in Word and Sacrament. Help us ever live to love and serve You and to glorify our Name in word and deed.

P: Lord, be with and bless us as You come to us in Your living and saving Word.

(The reception of the holy Sacrament is presented in Scripture as a most intimate expression of spiritual and confessional fellowship. We therefore ask that only those who have publicly professed such unity with us by membership here at Berea or at another CLC church come forward to the Lord’s altar. Any having questions or seeking a church home may speak with Pastor.)
