The Invocation And Confession Of Sins

C: Almighty God, Whose will is revealed to us in Your holy commandments, I confess to You my many failures to do Your will – to love You with all my heart and to love one another with the same love that You have loved us. In sorrow and repentance, I come before your throne of grace seeking Your mercy. Forgive me for the sake of the One Who kept these commandments in my place and Who atoned for all my sins on the cross. In Jesus’ Name I pray.

The Absolution (God Pronounces Forgiveness Through His Servant)

Honor your father and mother, that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.

What does this mean?

We should fear and love God that we do not dishonor or anger our parents or others in authority, but honor, serve and obey them, and give them love and respect.

The Apostles Creed (Inside Back Cover Of Hymnal)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

God Provides His Representatives in Our Lives

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother……  Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is upon you, but like servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord.” (Eph. 6: 1-2,6-7)

Hymn: “Our Lord, Ascended Through The Skies” (Melody LSB 805)

1. Our Lord, ascended thru the skies;
His work complete, no more He dies.
Gifts for His Church He leaves behind,
To share His Word with all mankind.

  1. In love You sent Your servants, Lord,
    In home & church & lives now found
    Authorities stand in Your stead,
    Their call to guide with You, their Head.
  2. Help us to honor and obey
    These servants, gifts to us each day:
    Our parents, pastors, teachers, all –
    Who love and serve You in their call.
  3. May all together serve in love,
    For Him Who served us from above.

    His Will and goal for all to live, By grace eternal life to give.

You shall not murder.

What does this mean?

We should fear and love God that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body, but help and be a friend to him in every bodily need.

God Protects the Gift of Life

“See now that I Myself am He! There is no God besides me. I put to death and I bring to life.” (Deuteronomy 32:39)

Hymn LSB 697 : Awake, O Sleeper, Rise from Death Hymnary.org link  “Awake, O Sleeper, Rise From Death”

You shall not commit adultery.

What does this mean?

We should fear and love God that we lead a pure and decent life in words and actions, and that husband and wife love and honor each other.

God Protects Marriage and Morality

“Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept pure. For God will judge the adulterer and the sexually immoral.” (Hebrews 13:4)
