Our God-Given, Blessed Spiritual Callings 1

The Sermon: 1 Peter 4:7-11

7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Profession of Faith

I believe in the God Who has revealed Himself to me in His holy Word – the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I believe that, since the Fall, sin has infected every human by nature, leaving a destiny of death and hell in its wake. Yet, I believe that in love God promised and sent His only-begotten Son into this world to become its Savior. I believe that Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Man, lived a holy life and suffered hell and death to atone for my sins. On the third day, He rose from the dead conquering death for all who believe.

And I believe that the Holy Spirit has through the Gospel worked saving faith in my heart – bringing me forgiveness, peace, comfort, joy and hope in Christ. All who trust in Christ alone for salvation are members of God’s family, the holy Christian Church. Out of love and obedience to Him, and out of loving concern for the welfare of my own soul and others, I will listen to His voice and seek to faithfully follow, preserve and share His Word of Truth and Life.

And I believe that God has brought me together into a family of faith and faithful. Together we enjoy the blessings of Christian unity. Together we encourage and strengthen one another in the bond of faith and fellowship we share in Christ and His Word. And together we eagerly await the day when the Church militant will become the Church triumphant – when all the enemies of our faith will be no more and we will be eternally secure in the arms of our Savior. Together we will then join the company of saints and angels in heaven forever praising and glorifying the Lamb Who sits upon the throne. This is most certainly true. Amen.

“Create In Me” (Page 12 in Hymnal)

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me,
Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
