The Invocation and Confession Of Sins

Lord, we come before You as sinners who are unworthy of the least of all the mercies You have showered upon us. With the Palm Sunday procession we cry out, “Hosanna” – “Save us, we pray You.” Confident of Your promises and trusting in Your atoning sacrifice on the cross, we come in repentance and faith. As we begin our Holy Week journey, lead us in faith to the cross and to the empty tomb, where we find forgiveness, life and salvation.

The Absolution And Hymn TLH 360 (V 1, 6-7): Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing Hymnary.org link

1 O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of His grace!

6 See all your sins on Jesus laid: The Lamb of God was slain,
His soul was once an offering made For every soul of man.

7 Glory to God, and praise and love Be ever, ever given,
By saints below and saints above, The church in earth and heaven.

Behold Your King!

1. Not Earthly, But Spiritual And Heavenly

John 18: 36a-37 – “My Kingdom is not of this world…… For this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.”

Matthew 20:28 – ” The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Philippians 2: 5-8 – “Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus, Who being in His very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking the form of a servant and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient unto death, even death on a cross.

They brought the donkey and put on it their cloaks and He sat on it. And the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, cut branches from the trees and spread them out. And the crowds cried out, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!”

3. Whose Procession Leads To The Cross

Isaiah 50: 5-7 – “The Lord Almighty has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back. I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard. I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. Because the Lord Almighty helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore I have set My face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.”

Matthew 16:21 – “From that time on, Jesus began to show His disciples that he must go up to Jerusalem to suffer many things from the chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”

Revelation 5: 11-12 – “Then I looked and heard the number of many angels, numbering thousands upon ten thousands, encircling the throne and with all the redeemed singing in a loud voice: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, Who was slain to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise.”

The Offering & The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
