The Invocation and Our Confession of Sins:

Lord God almighty, in this holy season, I come before You as spiritual dust and ashes – as an unworthy, judgment-deserving sinner coming before a holy and just God. Grant me a broken and contrite heart that confesses my many sins and ever turns to You for mercy and forgiveness. Lead me on my Lenten journey to the cross of Your Son. May I by faith find there what You promise – forgiveness, healing and salvation in Jesus and His atoning sacrifice for my sins.

Sing: I lay my sins on Jesus, The spotless Lamb of God;
He bears them all and frees us, From the accursed load.
I bring my guilt to Jesus, To wash my crimson satin
White in His blood most precious, Till not a spot remains.

Our Lenten Creed (Luther’s Explanation to the 2nd Article)

I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true Man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord. He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil – not with gold or silver, but with His innocent suffering and death. All this He did that I should be His own and live under Him and his kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness. Just as He is risen from death, lives and rules to all eternity. This is most certainly true.

Sing: Thou hast suffered men to bruise Thee, That from pain I might be free
Falsely did thy foes accuse Thee – Thence I gain security;
Comfortless Thy soul did languish, Me to comfort in My anguish.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus unto Thee.

The Lenten Offering

A Lenten Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

The Benediction (Sung “Amen”)
