At Home With The Lord

The Sermon ………………………………………………2 Corinthians 5: 1 – 9

Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in the heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked and so that what is mortal may be swallowed by life. Now it is God Who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say,and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

The Invocation, Confession Of Sins And Absolution

P: Dearly beloved! We have come together in the presence of God, our heavenly Father, to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at His hand, to proclaim His most worthy praise, to hear His holy Word and to ask for ourselves and on behalf of others those things necessary for our life and salvation. O come, let us worship Him! Let us kneel and bow down before Him. Let us confess our sins with penitent hearts, and obtain forgiveness by His infinite grace and mercy.

C: Almighty and most merciful Father, we have strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. Too often we have followed the devices and desires of our hearts. We have offended against Your holy Law. We have done those things which we should not have done, and we have not done those things we should have done. Have mercy on us, O Lord! Spare us and restore us, according to Your promises You have declared to us in Jesus Christ, our Savior. For His sake grant that we may live a godly and righteous life, to the glory of Your holy name.

P: The almighty and merciful Lord has granted us pardon and forgiveness for all our sins, grace for true repentance, faith to follow and trust Him and the comfort and peace of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

What though the tempests rage,  Heav’n is my home;
Short is my pilgrimage   Heav’n is my home;
And time’s wild wintry blast  Soon shall be overpast;
I shall reach home at last,  Heav’n is my home.

Therefore I murmur not,  Heav’n is my home;
Whate’er my earthly lot,  Heav’n is my home;
And I shall surely stand  There at my Lord’s right hand.
Heav’n is my fatherland,  Heav’n is my home.

The Scripture Reading – Romans 8: 11, 16-18, 23-25

Our eternal destiny is inseparably united with Christ. His victory over death becomes ours by faith. Patiently we wait for the ultimate fulfillment of all our faith hopes – our heavenly inheritance of glory.

Our Creed (Luther’s Explanation to the Third Article)

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him. But the Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church he daily and fully forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead; And He will give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.
