Ascension Angels’ Assure

This same Jesus, Who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

The Sermon: Acts 1: 9 – 11

Now when Jesus had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up onto heaven? This same Jesus, Who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

The Invocation And Ascension Prayer

An Ascension Responsive Scripture Reading

P: Then the disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying:

C: “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; But he who does not believe will be condemned… All authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth; Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; And, lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” (Mark 16: 15-16 & Matthew 28:18-20)

P: “So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up onto heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

C: And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word through the accompanying signs.” (Mark 16: 19-20)

P: “The exceeding greatness of God’s power was worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

C: Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And God put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1: 19-23)

P: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

C: Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ Who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Colossians 3: 1-4)

Sing: Oh, grant dear Lord, this grace to me, Recalling Thine Ascension,
That I may ever walk with Thee, Adorning Thy redemption;
And then, when all my days shall cease, Let me depart in joy and peace
In answer to my pleading.

The Consecration & Distribution Of Holy Communion ( TLH 360 : Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing Hymnary.org link )
(Since Scripture presents reception of this Sacrament as an intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity, we ask that only those who have professed such unity by membership at Berea or another CLC church come forward. Those having questions or seeking a church home are invited to speak with Pastor. This also marks the “first Communion” for our two confirmands – Mary Bruckbauer & Jacob Sydow)
