The Sermon …………………………………………… Acts 5 : 1 – 11

Now a man named Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold some property. With her full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest to the apostles. Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and kept some of the money for yourself? For you have not lied to men but to God.” When Ananias heard this he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what happened. Then the young men came forward and carried him out to be buried. When his wife, not knowing what had happened, also lied to the Apostles, she too fell down and died and was buried beside her husband. And great fear seized the whole church.”

A Responsive Consecration Prayer

P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, the same night in which He was betrayed, instituted the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
C: Praise be to You, O Lord, for giving us this Sacrament by which Christians are strengthened in their faith, uplifted in their spirits, and built up in their love for You.

P: Jesus took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples. Likewise, He took the cup, gave thanks and gave it to them.
C: We give thanks to You, Lord Jesus, for this special meal by which You would nourish and sustain the souls of Your disciples of all ages.

P: Jesus said to His disciples, “Take, eat. This is My body which is given for you… Take, drink. This is My blood shed for you for the remission of your sins.”
C: How great and marvelous is Your power in this holy Sacrament, O Lord! For You are giving us Your very body, lifted up on the cross to redeem us, and Your true blood, shed to cleanse us from all sin.

P: And Jesus also instructed them, “Do this in remembrance of Me!”
C: Help us, dear Lord, to make frequent use of this Sacrament and to be ever reminded through it of You and Your great sacrifice for our eternal salvation.

The Distribution Of The Sacrament (Sing TLH 315 : I Come, O Savior, to Thy Table Hymnary.org link )

Since Scripture presents the reception of this Sacrament as an intimate expression of spiritual & confessional fellowship, we ask that only those who have publicly professed such unity with us by membership at Berea or another CLC church come forward. Anyone having questions or seeking a church home are asked to speak with the Pastor.
