Hymn 518 (V 1,4,6-7) – “If Thou But Suffer God To Guide Thee”
The Invocation And Opening Prayer
Our Responsive Reading
P: The “Deliverance” promises of our God for His children are many and precious. To all who see and confess their sin and great need for a Savior He assures us:
C: Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who hope in his mercy, to deliver their soul from death,and to give them life forever.”(Ps 33:18)
P: Indeed, Jesus, our God-Man Representative, is our great Deliverer from the power of sin, death, hell and Satan:
C: When they cry to the LORD because of their oppressors, He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One,and He will deliver them.”(Is.19:20)
P: In the midst of our life-struggles in this sinful world, God promises His help and strength and deliverance:
C: Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you will glorify Me. (Psalm 50:15)
P: How wonderful it is to know that God will keep us safe through all the many trials and mighty attacks of Satan that come upon us in life:
C: The LORD shall deliver me from every evil work and preserve me safely unto His heavenly Kingdom (2 Timothy 4:18)
P: Our Father’s ultimate goal for which He created and redeemed each of us and for which He directs our lives is that we be with Him in the holiness and joy of life eternal in heaven. To that end, may we pray with the Psalmist as we look at our lives:
C: O LORD, You have dealt bountifully with me. For You have delivered my souls from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from falling – so that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living… Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116: 7-9,15)
Sing: I build on this foundation, That Jesus and His blood
Alone are my salvation, The true, eternal good.
Without Him all that pleases Is valueless on earth;
The gifts I owe to Jesus Alone my love are worth.
My heart for Joy is springing And can no more be sad,
‘Tis full of mirth and singing, See naught but sunshine glad. The Sun that cheers my spirit Is Jesus Christ, my King;
The heaven I shall inherit Makes me rejoice and sing.

The Sermon …………………………………….. Acts 12 (Excerpts)
At that time King Herod began to persecute the church. And He also seized Peter, put Him in prison bound in chains between two soldiers. And the church was earnestly praying for him. While sleeping at night, a light shone and an angel of the LORD stood by Peter, beckoning him to arise and dress. And immediately the chains fell off his feet and Peter, believing he was seeing a vision, followed the angel through the prison and an outside gate which opened to them. The angel departed and Peter said, “Now I know for certain that the LORD has sent His angel to deliver me.” And he went to a house where believers were gathered and, after convincing them it was he, told them how the LORD had delivered him.
