The Invocation And Christmas Confession Of Sins

C: Heavenly Father, once again we have been blessed to celebrate another Christmas here on earth. As we pause to consider our thoughts, attitudes, feelings, words and actions during this holy season, we were again reminded of the presence and power of sin in us – of our many faults and failings in all areas of our lives. Yet we were also powerfully reminded of You, Your greater love and mercy and of the importance of our Infant Savior’s coming. Forgive us, renew us, strengthen us and bless us as we go forward in our calling as Your dear children by faith in Jesus.

The Christmas Absolution

The Christmas Scripture – Hebrews 1: 1-8

God revealed Himself, His Word and Will and His glory in countless ways (including angels) throughout the Old Testament. Yet, all of these earlier revelations were both fulfilled in and superseded by the far greater revelation of His glory in His eternal Son’s coming to us from heaven and in the Gospel “purification for sins” which He secured for us. We join all God’s angels in worshiping his Firstborn.

CHRISTMAS IN THE CREEDS

THE ATHANASIAN CREED (Jesus Is True Man)

1 Timothy 3:16 – “Beyond all question, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, was justified in spirit, was seen by angels, was preached on among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Our Christmas Offering

Song by Trio – “The First Noel” Arr. Larsen/Mohlman
(Vocals: Ann and Laura Radichel, Annette Kuehne ; Piano: Steve Kuehne)

The first Noel the angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay:
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep

On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

[Chorus]:  Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far:
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night.
[Chorus]

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord,
The pains of sin and death he fought
And with his blood mankind hath bought. [Chorus]
